Singapore botanical garden

Nature note: Some photos taken from a morning walk in Botanical garden last week:

Two waterfalls at Botanical Garden, near the visitor center and Ginger Garden. Well, it's just a small man-made waterfall, but I like the fresh and fragrance smell of ginger there, and a small cave behind one of the waterfall, there are always children play around the area, of course not in the early morning...

Palm valley, a wide open grove surrounded by palms

white lotus at Symphony Pond
The beautiful swan lake. I did find swans here at my previous visit, well they may go somehwhere traveling, I guess, :) I only find turtles, a few of small fishes inhabits this wonderful lake.

...and this white-breasted waterhen was having fun feeding near the swan lake.

The lonely spotted dove

Ruby Tuesday-Red Hibiscus

 hibiscus

Hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis), a tropical flower, belongs to the family Malvaceae. It gets its name from the Greek words Hibiscus meaning "mallow" and rosa-sinensis meaning "rose of China". In Singapore, the plant is found in the wild but is often cultivated for purposes such as an environmental alternative to road dividers. Locals call the flower bunga raya or "flower of celebration".

You can find the beautiful red hibiscus flowers easily in Singapore. There are actually trees, small trees or evergreen shrub, growing to a maximum of 10 m in the wilds, were planted in a lot of HDB area, around the playground or in between the blocks. They are too common to be realized its beauty, until one day while waiting for my friend outside the car park, I captured these few pictures…

I would like to share with our Ruby Tuesday these beautiful flowers, and actually we can find a lot of other lovely  and beautiful things in our daily life, but to open our eyes, and slow down our life.

Mellow Yellow Monday-Frangipani Flowers

Frangipani Flowers Frangipani Flowers Frangipani flowers, they are always one of my favorites. Just imagine the fragrance from this flowers, it can make me happy for whole day. They planted everywhere in Singapore, but just seldom people to plant it in their own garden. This is one kind of plants that are ways flowering, easy to take care, and won’t grow too big, pretty flowers with nice fragrance. Why people here don’t really like it. I was told this kind of trees attracted to ghost easily…I was told this kind of trees used to grow in the cemetery… I don’t believe there is so called ghost, if there is a ghost, it should be the one who lives in our deep of mind, the evil of our own, our own human bad points. Every one, as human is sure have some very bad points in deep of our own heart, that is our ghost. Lock it there and don’t let it come out to this world. No matter what religion you have, just to be kind to others and to be honest to yourself. I longed to write this post when I see frangipani flowers every day, on my way to office. Just some though here, you may not like it, but it is mine. Other yellowy things here.

It produces deep red to light pink flowers. It also called Ostrich Plume and Pink Cone Ginger, are native Malaysian plants with showy flowers on long brightly colored red bracts. Hoya-Hoya Bella

DSCN0406 Hoyas are evergreen climbing vines or shrubs growing to 1-10 m (or more with suitable support in trees). They have simple opposite leaves 5-30 cm long that are typically succulent, and in many species are flecked with irregular small silvery spots.
The flowers appear in umbellate clusters at the apex of 2-3 cm peduncles, with repeated clusters of flowers developing sequentially on each peduncle. The flowering peduncles get 2-3 mm longer with each flowering, and can eventually reach 7 cm or more long; the base of the peduncle is smooth, with growth subsequent to the first flowering of the peduncle is rough with numerous tiny bracts. Each flower is about 1 cm diameter, with five thick, waxy, triangular petals; colours range from white to pink or yellow. They are sweetly scented and produce abundant nectar.

Hoya, a miniature species suited for baskets. Flowers 1cm across, comes in bunches of 10 to 15 hanging from along the stems. Bella has been in cultivation for many years and is well known to collectors. Great for indoors in well lit areas. Must be under protection in cold climates.
